Seat belt usage dropped to 83.5 percent in 2012, close to the 2011 rate of 83.8 percent. Even though Pennsylvania has a secondary seat belt law, our state´s seat belt rate is among the highest in the nation and has increased 15 percent over the last 10 years. National statistics show that for every one percent increase in seat belt usage, eight to 12 lives can be saved on the highways.

Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department serves the communities of Coolbaugh Township, Mount Pocono Borough, Tobyhanna Township, and Tunkhannock Township. The Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department became its own entity in 1994 with the converging of the Mount Pocono Borough and Tobyhanna Township Police Departments. In 1995, Tunkhannock Township joined the regional force, with Coolbaugh Township following soon after in 1997. The regionalization of the four departments gave the communities the opportunity to utilize manpower to the greatest potential while maximizing police coverage.

The force began with 15 officers. Now, 14 years later, it employs 38 officers within specialized divisions. These divisions include Detective, Patrol, Narcotics, Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), K-9, School Resource Officer, Mountain Bike Patrol, Motorcycle Unit and SWAT Team. The department covers an area of more than 200 square miles.

The Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department focuses on a proactive, community-based enforcement strategy. The department is always searching for additional technology, current patrol and enforcement strategies, and ways for the citizens to become more active in problem solving with our community issues.
