Success Stories

April 19, 2003 - Pocono Lake, PA

On the evening of April 19, 2003, a 42 year old male subject abducted a 13-year-old girl from her Pocono Mountain, Monroe County, Pennsylvania home and murdered her parents. Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department responded to the incident and requested the Pennsylvania State Police issue an Amber Alert based on information derived from the girl's dying father. Two PA Amber Alerts were issued through the evening. On the morning of April 20, 2003, (Easter morning), another Alert was issued. As a direct result of that morning's Pennsylvania Amber Alert activation, a citizen spotted the suspect vehicle in Schuylkill County and called 911. As the citizen was calling 911, the suspect vehicle passed a Pennsylvania State Trooper on stationary patrol in the area. The Trooper had received the Amber Alert information via the statewide law enforcement network Amber Alert sent the previous evening. The Trooper initiated a pursuit of the vehicle. Subsequently, the suspect released the girl and was ultimately taken into custody by the Pennsylvania State Police in Berks County.

About the KlaasKids Foundation For Children
by Marc Klaas

The KlaasKids Foundation was established in 1994 to give meaning to the death of my twelve-year-old daughter kidnap and murder victim Polly Hannah Klaas and to create a legacy in her name that would be protective of children for generations to come. Conceived with an initial investment of $2,000 the Foundation's mission is to stop crimes against children.
